INSTALLATION VIEWS

In the Company of Women: At Large, as curated by Dainy Tapia of ArtSeen365, is a community-oriented exhibition highlighting the work of 17 Miami-based women artists who have been prompted to work ‘at large’ by presenting pieces in a sizeable format, or exploring new mediums and themes. The exhibition showcases the contributions of women within the arts through a localized lens, capitalizing on the expanse of space through the creativity brought by the group. Maritza Lacayo, Assistant Curator at the Perez Art Museum Miami, will provide the featured exhibition text within the accompanying catalogue. In the Company of Women: At Large opens on Friday, July 15, at LnS Gallery located at 2610 SW 28th Lane, Miami, FL, with a public reception from 6 pm – 9pm, and will be open through Saturday, September 3, 2022.
The exhibition includes 17 Miami-based women artists working in various mediums from painting, drawing, and photography, to sculpture, video, and site-specific installations. The title In the Company of Women: At Large alludes to the provision for these artists with the ample space, and visibility, to develop and showcase the ideas that are or are becoming fundamental to their practice.
The exhibition plays with the ideas of freedom and scale: Freedom to work in a large format, maximize the use of ‘space’ as a resource and celebrate the artists’ work without thematic conformation. The overarching resonance is the impacting environment created through simply being in the company of other women.
The complete roster of artists includes Nathalie Alfonso, Jennifer Basile, Liene Bosquê, Carola Bravo, Friday, Natalia Garcia-Lee, Jeanne Jaffe, Regina Jestrow, Loni Johnson, Karla Kantorovich, Aurora Molina, Kerry Phillips, Evelyn Politzer, Jennifer Printz, Karen Rifas, yomarie silva-o’neal, and Lisu Vega, all stellar women artists, many of which have created new or site-specific works for the exhibition.
