LnS Gallery Announces “In the Company of Women: At Large”
On View: July 15, 2022 – September 3, 2022

Summer Exhibition Features an Eclectic Cast of Miami-based Women Artists

MIAMI (June 13, 2022) — This summer, LnS Gallery will present a group exhibition, “In the Company of Women: At Large,” curated by Dainy Tapia of ArtSeen365. This community-oriented exhibition highlights the work of 17 Miami-based women artists who have been prompted to work ‘at large’ by presenting pieces in a sizeable format, or exploring new mediums and themes. The exhibition showcases the contributions of women within the arts through a localized lens, capitalizing on the expanse of space through the creativity brought by the group. Maritza Lacayo, Curatorial Assistant & Public Coordinator at the Perez Art Museum Miami, will provide the featured exhibition text within the accompanying catalogue. ‘In the Company of Women: At Large’ opens on Friday, July 15, at LnS Gallery located at 2610 SW 28th Lane, Miami, FL, with a public reception from 6 pm – 9pm, and will be open through Saturday, September 3, 2022.

The exhibition includes 17 Miami-based women artists working in various mediums from painting, drawing, and photography, to sculpture, video, and site-specific installations. The title ‘In the Company of Women: At Large‘ alludes to the provision for these artists with the ample space, and visibility, to develop and showcase the ideas that are or are becoming fundamental to their practice.

“Most of the selected works are intentionally large to allow artists to take as much space as possible for their creations since space is such a coveted commodity, especially for us women, literally and figuratively,” said curator Dainy Tapia.

The exhibition plays with the ideas of freedom and scale: Freedom to work in a large format, maximize the use of ‘space’ as a resource and celebrate the artists’ work without thematic conformation. The overarching resonance is the impacting environment created through simply being in the company of other women.

LnS Gallery co-director, Luisa Lignarolo comments, “it is an honor and privilege to host such an important exhibition. The voices of women throughout art history have been minimized in the shadow of those that hold the pen, and we are so happy to have the opportunity to not only represent our triad of local talent, but also provide a space to facilitate the promotion of such a powerful group of artists.”

Among the participates are three LnS Gallery representees: Jennifer BasileNatalia Garcia-Lee, and yomarie silva-o’neal. Jennifer Basile will be debuting a grand scale one-of-a-kind print of the meditative Coot Bay in the Everglades. Yomarie Silva-O’neal will exhibit the newest evolution within her ecologically inspired ceramic practice. Natalia Garcia-Lee will showcase a new series of work, revealed just on the tail of her pertinent and impacting solo exhibition, ‘The Measure of Man,’ and continue her exploration into human behavior between each layer of oil on canvas.

Included in this exhibit is renowned Miami artist Karen Rifas, who was the second recipient of The Michael Richards Award, presented by Oolite Arts. This award is given to a Miami-based artist who has created a recognized body of original, high-quality works over a sustained period, and who, through his or her practice, is achieving the highest levels of professional distinction in the visual arts. Rifas’s Project Room activation transforms the area through an immersive installation aptly titled, Entitled. Rifas invites visitors to meditate on the strength and lasting impact of women beyond borders in the face of adversity, stating in response to her piece, “from Afghanistan to Texas women’s equality is on the line. Women still need to band together to secure their rights. The stripes on this flag represent that endless effort – the colors are pink but bold.”
